Yummy Gluten Free Breakfast
Happy Saturday Everyone!!!!
It is only 11am and already I have gotten so much done. Laundry, dishes, financial planning both personal and business related, and tended to my little seedlings and puppy. So to start my day I needed good cheap fuel. Why does it have to be cheap? Because I am starting a business :) without going into debt, while I am paying off debt. It is challenging, but exciting.
So this is what I had:
2 corn tortillas $.09
2 eggs $.23
1/8 can refried beans $.10
1/2 of an avocado $.25
Butter (for eggs) 1/2 tbsp $.05
1/4 cup diced tom and green onion $.10 (approx)
2 springs cilantro $.03 (approx)
Dash of Sriracha $.02 (approx)
Grand Total: $.87
How do I keep these prices low? Aldi's for everything but the avocado :) The avocado was purchased at Earth Fare 2/$1.00

Pie and Coffee
So this whole gluten free thing has been pretty easy. My work family has been really supportive and has given me an outlet to work on gluten free recipes. However some times you just want to go out and have other people cook for you. Sarah and I were out one day and wanted a coffee and snack! We wandered into Grand Traverse Pie and found a mini gluten free pie and coffee! It was tasty! It is so nice to have a coffee and sweet and know I won't have joint pain later.

Long Time No Post
I am sorry fellow food adventurers for the month long absence! I have been going through some changes. Big changes.
I am trying to acclimate going to a gluten free diet. It's been a little tough and I have been relying on some pre-made foods that really are not all that exciting.
The other reason for my absence is that I bit the bullet and really am trying to get my business started.
Now that I am starting to get my feet underneath me here is a little photo from pre-gluten free diet:

Sarah SK - Trip to La Azteca Bakery
Bitha and I enjoyed a visit to La Azteca Bakery in Kalamazoo this afternoon! It was our first time in, but I can promise it won't be our last! For myself, I chose a concha. And for Bitha, a cinnamon twisty bit. I can't wait to return and try everything!

Sarah SK - Roasted Veggies
Getting ready to roast some delicious veggies! These have been tossed in a herby olive oil and a lil bit of salt and will go into a 425 degree oven. We've got baby bellas, radishes, brussels sprouts, and red potatoes in this batch. We'll just have these alongside a roasted chicken and call it good!

Shopping Adventures
There is so many ways to grocery shop these days! Conventional, prepackaged, local, farmers market, ethnic stores, zero waste, inexpensive, raw, and any combination. I have always been fascinated with people who zero waste shop. I think it is a great way to go, but also very limiting. Plus you always have to remember to have your packaging vessels (glass jars, produce bags etc) with you.
I am trying to make more of a conscious effort to be more zero waste/ low waste in my shopping endeavors. Here is one of my latest shops at the Natural Health Food Center:
At the Natural Health Food Center I got a pear, zevia ginger rootbeer, Kalamazoo Coffee Company Maple Bacon coffee, butter, and beeswax so that I can make my own lip balm. At Harding's I purchased two tomatoes and an avocado. As you can see that there is a little waste, but not too much.
